working with Strawshop

Strawberry Theatre Workshop welcomes the opportunity to meet and collaborate with local artists. On average, half of every Strawshop cast and crew are artists new to the company. Unfortunately, current resources dictate that we do only do a few major projects each year, usually with a complete production company of fifteen or smaller. As much as we would like to embrace the whole community, professional opportunities are scarce.

Digital résumés and headshots are welcome by email, but artists should not expect a reply. Unsolicited physical materials will be discarded.

As a general philosophy, the most impressive asset a potential new collaborator brings to an interview or an audition is familiarity with the company's previous work and an understanding of its mission.

CONTRACT ARTISTS

Strawberry Theatre Workshop is currently seeking applicants for the following paid contract positions for the 2025 season. In 2025, Principal productions artists are paid $2000 and above. Some positions with smaller time commitments are paid less.

Strawshop strives for diverse voices in its creative process by guaranteeing that 50% of first offers for each principal position are made to candidates who identify as Black, Indigenous, or Persons of Color.

SCRIPTS

Since 2004, Strawshop has produced thirty-nine plays—including three original works, two narrative theatre adaptations, and ten West Coast premieres. The development of new scripts, however, is not a core mission of the company.

Digital scripts and project proposals are welcome by email, with the caveat that the company always has far more ideas than it has opportunity to produce. We do not have a staff dedicated to reviewing submissions, so playwrights should not expect a reply. Physical script submissions will be discarded.

POLICY ON WORKPLACE HARASSMENT

Strawberry Theatre Workshop is committed to maintaining an environment free from harassment and discrimination in all aspects of its operations. This commitment extends to all staff, interns, volunteers, vendors, board members, colleagues and members of the public against any individual who works for or comes into contact with the company.

All people working with and on behalf of Strawshop are expected and required to abide by this policy. No person will be adversely affected in affiliation with Strawshop as a result of bringing complaints of unlawful harassment made in good faith. Retaliation will not be tolerated. Any person affiliated with Strawshop found to have harassed or retaliated against another Strawshop employee, volunteer, board or audience member will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
